Research Interests

The focus of my research is the processing of declarative, i.e., database-like, queries in (highly distributed) information systems such as sensor networks or peer-to-peer networks. Furthermore, I am interested in geographical information systems, i.e., database systems which provide special operators and data models for processing queries related to moving objects and regions. The combination of these two topics has resulted in several publications and my dissertation titled "Evaluation of Spatio-Temporal Queries in Sensor Networks". The design and implementation of software for embedded systems, e.g., sensor nodes, is also part of my work. This work has resulted in several software packages for Sun SPOT sensor nodes, e.g., a complete radio stack and a management suite for large-scale sensor networks.
