Research Areas

Chair: Systems of Information Management

Prof. K. Böhm

The focus of our research is on scalable techniques for data management and analytics.
Our work targets at the synthesis of conceptual research results with prototypical deployments in different domains.
Our current topics include the efficient detection of unexpected and statistically outstanding data objects, techniques that hide different kinds of person-related information in large data sets, intelligent processing of data from sensor networks and technology for modeling and execution of secure and compliant data-aware processes.
We are always interested in collaborating with users as well as with researchers from other disciplines.

Research Group: Distributed Information Systems

Prof. P. Lockemann

The research groups at the Institute and at the FZI will bring the chair holder's scientific research to a conclusion over the next few years after his retirement in April 2004. The work is located in the field of distributed information systems and meets the challenges of data intensive, distributed and cooperative applications.
Besides more traditional questions of performance optimization of data-intensive applications, software aspects of agent technology play a central role in several projects for distributed and cooperative applications. A further focus is the search for information - and in case of distribution also for suitable services - based on semantic criteria and user contexts.
We test our technical results on the basis of practical scenarios from production systems, virtual service organizations, electronic commerce or traffic telematics.
